British comedy The Lady in the Van followed up a successful debut last week with a very noteworthy second week. The Maggie Smith led film surpassed Deadpool with AU$1.65 million to take top spot.
Deadpool however only trailed slightly earning AU$1.60 million. The Merc with a Mouth overtook Iron Man to become the third most successful comic book origin film ever. The original Spider-man is on top but one more week or two should see Deadpool move past Guardians of the Galaxy.
Sacha Baron Cohen’s new venture Grimsby was only about $100k from taking second spot, the gross out-comedy keeping the mystery and intrigue of 10 Cloverfield Lane to fourth spot with AU$1.4 million.
Of course Zootopia is about to open in time for school holidays but even in pre-release, Disney’s newest made half a million and settled in at sixth spot.
