The upcoming Sydney Film Festival will play host to the premiere of Australian feature film The Daughter.

Starring Sam Neill, Miranda Otto, Paul Schneider and Geoffery Rush, The Daughter follows Christian (Schneider), who returns to his hometown, reunites with his childhood friend, and discovers family secrets that could tear everyone’s lives apart. The Daughter is the directoral debut of Simon Stone and will open the festival’s Official Competition, in which it has been nominated.

“We are delighted that the world premiere of our film The Daughter will be in Sydney where it has been selected for Official Competition,” said The Daughter‘s producers Jan Chapman and Nicole O’Donohue. “It is fantastic to be invited to launch Simon’s debut feature film at a festival that we love and have always deeply engaged with.”

The Daughter will screen at the festival on Thursday, 4 June, and Friday, 5 June, and will be theatrically released later in the year, on Thursday, 10 September.
