In its opening weekend, San Andreas has rocketed to the top of the box office earning $3.2 million. The blockbuster disaster movie is Dwayne Johnson and Brad Peytons second collaboration since Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and despite some ho-hum reviews (check ours out here), that ever reliable promise of jaw dropping visual FX has won over audiences.
Like Pitch Perfect 2 before it -which has now dropped down to 4th spot , making $1.8 million- Mad Max: Fury Road has enjoyed but a short stint at the top. Proving it is no slouch however, Mad Max sticks in at 2nd spot earning $2.5 million.
Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthys new comedy Spy is doing well in 3rd, raking in a solid $2.4 million while Marvels Mighty Avengers have been pushed to number 7 in the wake of big budget titles earning a comparatively quiet half a million.

Tomorrowland, this weeks other new release starring George Clooney and directed by Disney alumni Brad Bird has opened at number 5 with $1.5 million.
