For the second week running, Taken 3 has topped the Box Office charts, leaving new release Unbroken – Angelina Jolie’s directing debut – in the dust by a mere $0.5 million.
Good news for Aussie film fans – Robert Connolly’s Paper Planes came in forth for the week at $1.7 million, just trailing behind the sing-a-long that is Into The Woods.
Perhaps most surprising about this weeks results is that of the position of the highly acclaimed Birdman. Despite having been nominated nine times for the 87th Academy Awards (which was announced earlier this week), it appears audiences weren’t quite drawn into the hype.

Next week will be interesting. We’ll see whether American Sniper can live up to its high expectations following its highly successful release in the US, where it has smashed all available box office records and become one of 11 films in history to receive an A+ in all categories from Cinemascore. Keep your eyes peeled for Foxcatcher – which was also nominated for five categories in the Academy Awards – and Reese Witherspoon’s return to cinema with Wild
