After months and months of rumours and speculation, we have finally been told who will be starring in the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII. Aside from the confirmation that Original Trilogy stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford will be reprising their roles in the film, we now have the list of incredible actors who will be portraying the new characters in this film and beyond. The announcement was made earlier today, along with the release of an awesome behind the scenes shot of the cast at the first read-through in London.
The announcement included confirmation of the rumoured casting of Adam Driver (TV’s Girls), John Boyega (Attack the Block) and Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis), as well as the pleasant surprise that Domhnall Gleeson (About Time), Max von Sydow (The Exorcist) and Motion Capture King Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings) would also be joining the cast. Intiguingly, the only new major female character will be played by unknown Daisy Ridley.
Director JJ Abrams released this statement today:
“We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”
These are exciting times to be a fan of Star Wars, or just films in general, and Episode VII is shaping up to be everything we hope it can be. We’ll keep you updated with all Star Wars news, as well as some guess-work on who the new cast members will be playing.
Star Wars Episode VII will be released in Australian cinemas on Boxing Day 2015.
