If you’re a big fan of the Metropolitan Opera, but can’t afford to shell out the money for tickets to fly over and see them in the flesh in New York City, you’re in for a big treat. The Met Opera’s recent production of Rossini’s La Donna Del Lago was filmed as part of their Captured Live in HD series, and will be touring Australian cinemas from June 13.

The performance stars Joyce DiDonato as Elena, the lady of the lake pursued by two men, whilst Juan Diego Florez plays Giacomo, the benevolent king of Scotland. La Donna Del Lago also stars Daniela Barcellona as Malcolm, John Osborn as Rodrigo, and Oren Gradus as Duglas. Michele Mariotti conducts debuting director Paul Curran’s staging, which is part of a co-production with Santa Fe Opera.

The screenings are also set to feature exclusive content set to screen during the intermission, including live backstage interviews with the bel canto superstars DiDonato and Florez. The content also includes an interview with Met General Manager Peter Gelb, where he discusses the 2015-16 line-up of Captured Live in HD, as well as a sneak preview of the final opera of the season, Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci.

If you’re keen to catch the production in cinemas (and let’s face it, why wouldn’t you be), you can find out where it’s playing by heading to http://www.themetinaustralia.info/
