A live action version of Tarzan is coming next year, with True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgård playing the eponymous character. Interestingly enough, Disney is not behind the production, with Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures delivering the new take on the legendary character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
The film also stars Australian actress Margot Robbie as Jane, Samuel L. Jackson, Djimon Hounsou, John Hurt, Jim Broadbent (“Iris”), and Christoph Waltz. The film is being helmed by David Yates, who directed the final four Potter films, as well as the upcoming Harry Potter offshoot Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Adam Cozad and Craig Brewer deliver the screenplay.
The first teaser trailer was revealed this week, which doesn’t give too much away, but still gets us excited for the production. You can watch it below:

Here’s the synopsis:
It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side.
Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.
A Jerry Weintraub production, The Legend of Tarzan is slated for release in Australia in June 30, 2016 in 2D and 3D.
