Directed by Riley Blakeway, Corona Extra Presets Someplace Else is a special short film which follows an eclectic group of artistic individuals as they embark on the ultimate road trip along the Mexican coast. They piled into a transporter bus for 7 days and 7 nights, traveling the coast, meeting locals along the way while eating, living, and drinking the Mexican culture.

Here we bring you a Q&A with Jeff Canham, one of the individuals who you’ll be following throughout the short film.

How did you get involved in “Someplace Else”?

I’ve done a few projects with Corona in the past so when they asked me if I’d be interested in going on a trip to paint a bus and surf some warm water point breaks in Mexico I of course said yes.

Putting six people on a trip together forces you to get to know one and other very well. What’s something you learnt about another on the trip that perhaps surprised you?

A lot of the people on this trip travel a lot as part of their jobs so when I asked if all their trips were this much fun and they said no it made me realize just how special this one was.

What do you learn about yourself on a trip like this?

Even when I think I’m ripping in the water, there’s a huge divide between average joes like myself and professional surfers like Ozzie and Dylan. Watching them surf, I was like a deer in headlights and I almost got run over on several occasions.

Did you have a favourite spot along the Mexican coast to drink a Corona?

Just about anywhere we went on this trip will do.

Food of choice on a Mexican Road Trip?

The tacos that we got from the street carts were the best.

Where had the best waves?

The best surf was at a spot about an hour north of where we were staying in Sayulita. I’m a goofy foot and it was a little left hand point with only our crew out so I was in heaven. It picked up while we were out there and as the tide changed there were a few tubes.

What was your soundtrack for the trip?

Hanni, Dylan and Ozzie are all shredding musicians so they kept the tunes going. Anytime there was some down time they’d be playing songs and making up new ones.

What do you think or hope people will take away from the film about the trip?

So many great, funny, and exceptional things happened on this trip and they can’t all make it into a short film so I hope more than anything it will just capture the feeling and show people doing what they love to do and having a great time in the process.

And a chance for some self promo: let us in on what you’re up to at the moment / what’s coming up for you…

I’m having a baby boy at the end of June so most of my time is focused on preparing for that.
