The Hollywood Reporter broke the story earlier today that Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Channing Tatum (22 Jump Street) and Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin) have signed up to appear in the next film directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, Hail, Caesar! The Coen Brothers, whose films include Fargo, The Big Lebowski, and Best Picture winner No Country for Old Men, are two of the most respected directors in the world, and each of their films creates buzz. The 1950’s period comedy also stars George Clooney and Josh Brolin and follows Eddie Mannix, a fixer who works for the Hollywood studios. THR claims that Tatum will play a Gene Kelly-type movie star, Fiennes will play a director and Swinton will play a gossip columnist.
This is incredibly exciting news, as each of these actors are operating at the top of their game at the moment. Tatum has a huge hit on his hands with 22 Jump Street and is gaining a lot of critical respect with his dramatic performance in the upcoming Oscar-baiting pic Foxcatcher. Fiennes is coming off a critically acclaimed performance in Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, which also starred critical darling Swinton. The prospect of these actors in a Coen Brothers film set in period Hollywood suggests that Hail, Caesar! is certainly something to look forward to.
Hail, Caesar! does not currently have a release date scheduled.
