Adelaide film fans certainly have something to get excited about with more details about what will be on offer as part of FilmFest (https://www.filmfest.net.au/) later this month (Friday 16th, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October) at Palace Nova Cinema. The event is set to host three exclusive VIP Tour events including exclusive cocktail parties and red-carpet screenings throughout the Adelaide Film Festival this month, promising to deliver “a touch of Cannes-style festival glamour, and giving audiences the opportunity to be amongst the first to discover the next great films and performances.”
Hosted by renowned film critic Eddie Cockrell (Variety, The Australian), the events will begin with an intimate cocktail party and red-carpet entry to the premiere screenings; and conclude with a discussion of the film .
The hosted screenings will include:
The Dressmaker
Starring: Kate Winslet, Judy Davis, Liam Hemsworth
5:30pm Friday, 16th October
Tilly Dunnage (Kate Winslet), a beautiful and talented misfit, after many years working as a dressmaker in exclusive Parisian fashion houses, returns home to the tiny middle-of-nowhere town of Dungatar to right the wrongs of the past. Not only does she reconcile with her ailing, eccentric mother Molly (Judy Davis) and unexpectedly falls in love with the pure-hearted Teddy (Liam Hemsworth), but armed with her sewing machine and incredible sense of style, she transforms the women of the town and in so doing gets sweet revenge on those who did her wrong.
A Month of Sundays
Starring: Anthony LaPaglia, Julia Blake, Justine Clarke
5:30pm Saturday, 17th October
Filmmakers will be in attendance at this screening
Real estate agent Frank Mollard (Anthony LaPaglia) won’t admit it, but he can’t move on. Divorced but still attached, he can’t sell a house in a property boom – much less connect with his teenage son. One night Frank gets a phone call from his mother. Nothing out of the ordinary. Apart from the fact that she died a year ago.
Spear
Starring: Hunter Page-Lochard, Aaron Pedersen, Djakapurra Munyarryun
5pm Sunday, 18th October
Spear is a ground-breaking work from Stephen Page telling a contemporary Aboriginal story through movement and dance. It follows a young Aboriginal man Djali as he journeys through his community to understand what it means to be a man with ancient traditions in a modern world. Featuring dancers from Stephen’s highly acclaimed Bangarra Dance Theatre, this is an intimate journey with one of Australia’s most celebrated artists as he brings this modern day mythology to the screen.
A limited number of tickets (and more information about the event) are now available here: https://www.filmfest.net.
