Filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo to produce a new Chinese superhero franchise

The sibling-duo filmmakers, Joe and Anthony Russo will be producing a new Chinese superhero franchise to target the film market in China.

Furthermore, the Russo brothers have partnered-up with a Beijing-based production company to develop this new superhero franchise, with movie buffs around China already calling the project ‘Captain China.’

In March, they also managed to create a boutique studio named Anthem & Song and they have been using it to produce Chinese-language films for China’s booming market.

It’s expected that by next year, China will become the world’s largest box office market.

“It is fair to say that the Russos are regarded as heroes in the global film business,” FangJin CEO Li Xing told The Hollywood Reporter.

“In the future, everyone will be focused on the China market. By working with the Russos, we want to use the best visual storytelling to make localised films that fit the Chinese market.”

In their interview with THR, Joe Russo explained how the Chinese industry was a great niche to go towards, saying that the brothers were “interested in Chinese voices, and dimensionalising world cinema.”
