25 years ago, a rejected X-Files plot and a morbid sense of humour came together in the most glorious (and gory) fashion for Final Destination. At a time when the horror genre was heavily reliant on the slasher subsect, Final Destination dared to go beyond conventions, taking the pin-up cast of its contemporaries and offing them through an unseen force.
Planes, trains and automobiles (well, specifically logging trucks) have never been the same since – if you know, you know – and it appears that the filmmakers behind the long awaited sequel, Final Destination: Bloodlines, directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein (Freaks) and writers Guy Busick (Scream VI), Lori Evans Taylor (Bed Rest) and Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home), are gearing up a new generation of fans to worry about what’s in store for them at any moment.
Enter the last tattoo you’ll ever get.
This latest chapter in New Line Cinema’s bloodiest franchise is going back to uncover Death’s twisted sense of justice as it follows college student Stefanie. Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, she heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.
Final Destination: Bloodlines, which teases a familial bond to past franchise entrants, is scheduled to arrive in Australian theatres on May 15th, 2025.
