Quickly cementing his status one of the most talented actors of his generation, Tom Hardy is currently undertaking one of his most challenging roles yet. Or rather, two of his most challenging roles yet. Hardy has started shooting period biopic Legend this week, in which he portrays real-life twins Reginald and Robert Kray. To mark the start of shooting, Working Title and StudioCanal have released the first image of Hardy in character(s), photographed here by Greg Williams. The film, which is being written and directed by Brian Helgeland (screenwriter of LA Confidential and Mystic River), charts the rise of the Kray twins, who are notorious for being two of the most infamous gangsters in London in the 50s and 60s.
Legend also stars Australian actress Emily Browning (Sucker Punch), David Thewlis (the Harry Potter series), Christopher Eccleston (Thor: The Dark World), Chazz Palminteri (The Usual Suspects), Tara Fitzgerald (Game of Thrones), and Taron Egerton (the upcoming Kingsmen: The Secret Service). Playing twins on screen is always a challenge for any actor, as they risk making the two characters too similar. But an actor of Hardy’s talent and range definitely has the capacity to give us an awesome double performance.
Legend will be released in Australian cinemas in 2015.
