First stills released from James Marsh’s The Mercy starring Colin Firth and Rachel Weisz

The Mercy has been confirmed as the title of the latest work from Studiocanal, Blueprint Pictures and BBC Films and first images for the film are finally bracing the Internet.

The film, having as many Academy Awards attached to it as the ceremony itself, will star Colin Firth, Rachel Weisz and is helmed by The Theory of Everything director James Marsh.

The film will be based on the true story of Donald Crowhurst and his attempt to win the first non-stop single-handed round-the-world yacht race in 1968.

‘The story of Crowhurst’s dangerous solo voyage and the struggles he confronted on the epic journey while his wife Claire and children waited for his return at home is one of the most enduring mysteries of recent times.’

The film is planned for a 2017 release.
