After The Jungle Book smashing the box office last week and while we wait for the current lineup of upcoming remakes including Beauty & the Beast, there’s definitely some potential in what Disney animated classic’s could benefit from a reboot.
Here’s a list of Disney classics that we want to see, promising ones that would bring old and new fans together:
James and the Giant Peach
This is an adventurous story of an orphan escaping his miserable life after discovering a giant magical peach. It would be interesting to see this film of gloom and warmth rebooted as a live-action film, and see if Tim Burton and his magic can be overthrown.
The Sword in the Stone
The legend of Arthur and Merlin never gets old. This classic is a great retelling of the once and future king. It would be interesting to follow the adventures of a boy who becomes a king. A reboot can also offer the opportunity of genderbending Arthur, following the lineup of women/girls and swords in fairytale retellings.
The Black Cauldron
An underrated classic which tells the story of Taran who dreams of becoming a heroic knight and as if destiny has granted him his dream, he becomes entangled with the villain Horned King. It would be refreshing to see Disney take on more epic fantasies and of course shed some spotlight on this less well-known story.
Aladdin
This classic remains cherished with a musical currently running, proving its magic is everlasting. It’s a tale of “from rags to riches” with memorable songs (songs that would be great to hear again with new voices)- but the real question is: are we ready for a new Genie?
Pinocchio
A puppet boy who learns how to be human and becomes a real boy in the end. Would there be a real Pinocchio in a live action remake? It has been reported that there are plans to bring him to life with What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and About a Boy screenwriter Peter Hedges behind the script.
Pinnochio was praised for its animation effects and its theme song “When You Wish Upon A Star” is part of Disney’s opening logo, so it makes sense that the film should be rebooted.
