We haven’t had an update since it was announced last year that Warner Brothers would be teaming with JK Rowling to make a spin-off film from her astronomically successful Harry Potter series. But now we know more…
The film, titled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, will follow magizoologist Newt Scamander’s search for magical creatures and will be set in New York City 70 years before the events in the Harry Potter novels. The film will mark the screen-writing debut of Rowling and will reunite her with producer David Heyman, who also produced the Harry Potter films and last year’s mega-hit Gravity.
It has now been announced that the film will be the first in a planned trilogy, with Scamander serving as the protagonist in all three films. This indicates that Warner Brothers have a huge amount of confidence in the film’s ability to succeed. Of course, this is pretty sensible given the fact that hungry Harry Potter fans will go crazy for any film set in Rowling’s universe, no matter what it is about.
We can expect the first Fantastic Beasts film to be a box office juggernaut when it is released, with the potential for the trilogy to become one of the most successful series of all time if the first film is well-received. It’s a good time to be a Potter fan!
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them does not currently have a scheduled release date.
