The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) and Victorian Government are teaming up to create the ultimate incubator for emerging documentarians are on the hunt for young Victorians to get involved. Hothouse is a weeklong intensive program for Victorian students in Years 10 to 12, aimed at nurturing creativity and moving image skills. Ten students will be chosen for the program, and will find themselves dropped into a fast-paced production studio to gain hands-on production experience, contacts in the industry and plenty of career inspiration.
Hothouse takes place in the July school holidays and will give the students access to ACMI’s state of the art production facilities. Structured around a strict production timeline, the workshop allows the students to develop vital skills for the film and television industry, including idea development and research, scripting, interviewing, location shooting, editing, post-production time management, and planning skills.
A highlight of Hothouse is the opportunity for students to work with industry professionals, such as documentarian and media activist Anna Helme and emerging producer Atlanti Dionysus. Perhaps best of all, the workshop is free for the chosen participants and support is available for those living outside Metropolitan Melbourne who are taking part.
