Expect the unexpected. Take it outside. Be nice.
These are the 3 simple rules of Road House, and just a slew of the Easter eggs and throwback references to the Patrick Swayze original that the freshly unveiled one-sheet for Doug Liman and Jake Gyllenhaal‘s reimagining is teasing ahead of its global release on Prime Video on March 21st.
In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.
Between the cooler filled with beer on the bar behind Jake (a reference to Swayze’s Dalton, a philosophy-grad-turned nightclub bouncer or “Cooler”), the Buick Message in graffiti to his left (“FOR A GREAT BUICK CALL 555-7617”), the double deuce logo, and Bigfoot #7 – the monster truck that demolishes a car dealership in the ’89 film – it’s clear that the love for the original is rippling through the star’s UFC-ready veins; we all saw those fight photos that emerged last year, right?
With a brand new screenplay from Anthony Bagarozzi (The Nice Guys) and Charles Mondry, produced by the legendary Joel Silver (The Matrix, Die Hard), and co-starring Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad), Billy Magnussen (No Time To Die), Jessica Williams (Booksmart), Joaquim de Almeida (Fast & Furious 5) and professional mixed martial artist Conor McGregor, Road House will potentially break all its own rules from March 21st, 2024 on Prime Video.
