JJ Abrams confirms an openly-gay character will be coming to a galaxy far far away

Speaking at this weekend’s Oscar Wilde Awards, The Force Awakens-director J.J. Abrams confirmed that fans should expect to see an openly-gay character in future installments of the franchise.

“When I talk about inclusivity it’s not excluding gay characters. It’s about inclusivity. So of course”

“To me, the fun of Star Wars is the glory of possibility. So it seems insanely narrow-minded and counterintuitive to say that there wouldn’t be a homosexual character in that world”, Abrams said in a story originally reported by The Daily Beast.

Though Abrams is stepping back from the franchise to allow Rian Johnson to helm the next installment, it’s still a promising sign.

Star Wars: Rogue One is set for release on December 16th 2016.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is expected to release December 17th 2017.
