In news that has fans of The Daily Show across the globe hitting up Google like there’s no tomorrow, retiring host Jon Stewart’s successor has officially been announced as South African comedian Trevor Noah. Most of you may be saying to yourself ‘Trevor who?’ and you wouldn’t be alone. Many fans were expecting a big name star to follow Stewart’s 16 year tenure on the show, or at the very least a long running collaborator.
Though Noah has only made three on-air appearances since joining The Daily Show last December, the little screen time he has had shows he has the chops to fill Stewart’s formidable shoes.
Speculation of who was to take up hosting duties has been rife since Stewart announced his retirement, with the New York Times breaking the news this morning. Noah, who has currently on tour in Dubai, said of the announcement, “you don’t really believe it for the first few hours. You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you’re in a place where you can’t really get alcohol”.
No announcements have been made as to when Noah will officially take over from Stewart, though the handover is expected to come before the end of the year.
