The BOFA Devil Awards is one part of the Launceston event which examines the changing screen landscape through master classes attended by makers, actors and technicians. This year’s BOFA Festival will run from November 4th to 8th with industry master classes and Award presentations on Saturday, November 7 and submissions for the Filmmaker awards are closing soon.
The now 6 year old annual Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival (BOFA) is reminding budding filmmakers there’s only 2 weeks left to submit entries for the BOFA Devil Short Film Competition. The festival aimed at celebrating local talent and developing culture is open to all resident Australian film makers. Entries should be less than 15 minutes in length and must have been made in the last five years.
Of the total submissions, 35 will receive a Selected in Competition certificate and be screened to festival audiences at BOFA 2015 before feature length films and documentaries. But the winner receives $1000, a VIP BOFA Festival Pass and a hand crafted glass BOFA Devil Award, designed and made by Tasmanian master glassblower James Dodson.
Bear in mind all short filmmakers whose films are screened at BOFA 2015 receive a BOFA Festival Pass to see 8 films of their choice, valued at over $100. Winners and other finalists will be publicly recognised at the Festival film industry presentation event on Saturday afternoon 7th November in the Tasmanian Design Centre, Launceston.
Script writers can also get in on the action through the BOFA Devil Script Writing Competition open to any script for a feature film, tele-movie or single TV series episode. The winner’s work will be read at BOFA 2016 by professional actors from Mudlark Theatre in for an audience of mainland and Tasmanian screen industry guests.
Nominations are also welcome from Tasmanian film-makers, industry businesses and others associated with the screen industry for the BOFA Devil Entrepreneurial Spirit Award. This recognises an individual in Tasmania’s screen industry who has shown outstanding entrepreneurial spirit by getting projects off the ground, developing their screen business, forming collaborative partnerships, and/or actively working to create a sustainable and viable screen industry in Tasmania.
