Life could be a dream. If only all my precious plans would come true. If you would let me spend my whole life loving you. Life could be a dream, sweetheart.
After her critically acclaimed high-school set comedy debut Booksmart, director Olivia Wilde looks to be proving no flash in the pan with her bold sophomore project, Don’t Worry Darling. An audacious, twisted and visually stunning psychological thriller, the film tells of Alice (Florence Pugh) and Jack (Harry Styles), a happy couple living in the idealized community of Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. The 1950’s societal optimism espoused by their CEO, Frank (Chris Pine) – equal parts corporate visionary and motivational life coach – anchors every aspect of daily life in the tight-knit desert utopia.
But when cracks in their idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something much more sinister lurking beneath the attractive façade, Alice can’t help questioning exactly what they’re doing in Victory, and why. Just how much is Alice willing to lose to expose what’s really going on in this paradise?
Boasting intoxicating performances from Pugh and Styles, Don’t Worry Darling comes courtesy of Wilde’s Booksmart scribe Katie Silberman, based on a story written by Chernobyl Diaries pens Carey Van Dyke & Shane Van Dyke.
Don’t Worry Darling is set to open in North American cinemas on September 23rd, 2022, with international rollouts beginning from September 21st, 2022.
