For the second weekend running, the latest Mad Max film has dominated the top of the Australian Box Office (week ending 27th May), outperforming the new entry Spy – which performed well for an American Comedy amongst positive reviews. Pitch Perfect 2 brought in an impressively strong weekend, too, especially being its third on the charts (it has now brought in over $22 million).
The three films gave cinemas in Australia a healthy weekend, while the second Avengers film continued to perform strongly, and Woman in Gold didn’t do too poorly in its debut. Poltergeist would have been a disappointing debut – but not unexpected – while the fact that Furious 7 remains in the top 10 two months after release is a stunning feat in itself. It should hit close to $45 million before it finishes up on our screens, a figure that Avengers should creep up close to as well. Here are the numbers from the weekend:
