Music Video streaming service Vevo has announced new additions to their already stellar mobile and desktop offerings with the launch of Watch Party for desktop, and a redesigned interface for IOS.
Watch Party is a new Vevo experience that allows for a new co-viewing experience across multiple screens. Users will be able to invite their friends to stream music videos in sync, with the live chat function enabling seamless communication between viewers. With a voting system and interactive playlist, viewers are also able to choose what comes next for a unique experience.
Initially on desktop, with the potential for mobile expansion, the new feature shows some outstanding potential in terms of how people interact with music video playlists and the shared viewing experience for something that isn’t the typical “live steam”. Expect tastemakers and brands to take advantage of the new feature in weeks and months to come.
Key features of the Watch Party experience include ‘Host Mode’ and ‘Collaboration Mode’.
Host Mode allows the user to host a unique, tailor-made experience for their friends, taking on the role of a sole DJ where they control and fine-tune the playlist and order of the music videos. This mode is designed for parties, and to show off your favourite videos to all your friends. Collaboration Mode, meanwhile, allows for users to vote on their favourite videos and build a collective playlist together.
Watch Party has an unlimited amount of users, meaning that anybody around the world can join your party and join in the collaboration. Up to 100 videos can be added to the music video queue, allowing users to share and discover a huge range of new music.
In addition to Watch Party on Desktops, there are new changes on the horizon for Vevo on iOS. Vevo’s New Home mobile experience is designed to cater to the music tastes of each user, in a style inspired by Netflix and Spotify. The new, user-friendly design will streamline Vevo’s catalog, playlists and original content for a deeper, more immersive platform. Curated playlists will be easier to access and users will be able to enjoy their favourite music faster and more efficiently.
New artist stations will jump directly into specially curated playlists designed by Vevo’s team, and can be personalised through genre, time of day and mood. The more user engagement, the more Vevo will tailor the experience. New Home is launching on IOS in mid April, but the experience will roll out across other platforms soon after.
