New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine to merge universes for one-hour episode

The two longest running comedies currently airing on Fox in the USA will join forces (pun intended) on Tuesday October 11th for a special one-hour episode.

The news came through Monday from the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour where New Girl creator Elizabeth Meriwether announced that “The crossover episode has historically been the artistic high point of any show that has dared to attempt it … New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine will proudly and humbly go where few shows have gone since the 1990s. We know we have big shoes to fill, and we look forward to disappointing everyone. There’s a 50 percent chance Alf will also be in both episodes. But there’s also a 50 percent chance that is a lie.”

While the crossover has become commonplace amongst DC Comics shows, NBC’s Dick Wolf productions and CBS’s NCIS and Criminal Minds mix ups, the realm of comedy has been largely ignored.

The New Girl to Brooklyn Nine-Nine crossover might be one of the stranger mix-ups yet, as the two show don’t share a studio nor do they don’t share a city (L.A and N.Y) but the creators are taking the collaboration very seriously as Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-creator Dan Goor said in his statement, “In all seriousness, we’re all huge fans of New Girl here at the Nine-Nine, and we’re excited to see our characters interact and to work with their incredible writers and producers”.

The plot of the episode is yet to be revealed but the location is looking to be locked in for New York. Peep this Zooey Deschanel and Andy Samberg video to see the shows protagonists together ahead of the October mashup.
