No-one really expected much from 21 Jump Street back in 2012. In the age of reboot fatigue, a reboot of a teen cop TV series from the 80’s didn’t sound like a great idea. Much to everyone’s surprise the film was a huge hit and one of the best comedies released in some time. The film worked for two reasons – directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The LEGO Movie), and the incredible comedic chemistry between the two leads, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. Now, two years later, we are only weeks away from seeing 22 Jump Street. Comedy sequels are tricky, but Lord, Miller, Hill and Tatum are all back for round two, and the film is looking like it has a pretty good chance of recreating the magic of the first film.
Here’s the official synopsis:
After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. Now they don’t have to just crack the case – they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them.
A new clip from the film has just been released, and it shows the no-nonsense Captain Dickson (Ice Cube), giving the boys their assignment for the film. Have a look below:
22 Jump Street will be released in Australian cinemas on June 19th, 2014.
