Cult comedy and regular best. show. ever recipient Community was purchased by Yahoo! last year, adding to the confusion over the series foggy future. At least that future is a bit clearer now with the announcement that the show will return for a Sixth Season, an announcement made at a panel which included series creator Dan Harmon, Executive Producer Chris McKenna, and cast members Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, and Ken Jeong.
The show will debut the sixth season’s first two episodes on Yahoo! on 17th March 2015, with weekly episodes every Tuesday after that.
As reported on Paste Magazine, other tidbits of information that were thrown around the Panel include the fact that Harmon is not writing the show as if it’s the final season, and that each episode will have less of a tie-in theme as past seasons had; “it’s just a bunch of Community-themed episodes” he stated. Plotlines that will be included are Jeff as a teacher, and addressing the totally not nice loss of Shirley (who was played by Yvette Nicole Brown).
Harmon commented on the show’s online transition, acknowledging the persistence by stating “this show has learned how to survive like a pine tree. We retain moisture”. He also mused “it’ll be weird when we get cancelled by the Internet and just become a roving band of improvising street performers”.
