Luke Scott will draw the curtains to The 2016 Sci-Fi Film Festival with his first feature length directorial project, sci-fi horror Morgan.
The son of legendary director Ridley Scott has appropriately inherited his father’s passion for the sci-fi genre, piecing together a project worth his appraisal. Ridley Scott, regarded as a notoriously reticent man, first responded to his son’s film by saying “Good job, son. I’m very proud of you. Now, what’s your next job?”
Morgan will trail an artificial experiment gone wrong and stars Kate Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rose Leslie, Paul Giamatti, Toby Jones, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Michelle Yeoh.
Ridley Scott has acted as producer on Morgan and has also produced the film that will be opening the Sci-Fi Film Festival, Equals. Ridley is also currently working on the upcoming Alien: Covenant, which will meet cinemas on August 4, 2017.
The 2016 Sci-Fi Film Festival has made another addition with the 2K remastered director’s cut of 1982 classic, Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan. The restored piece will play on the tail of Adam Nimoy’s melancholy documentary For The Love Of Spock, which serves as an ode to his father and defining Star Trek actor, the late Leonard Nimoy.
Aside from the main event, two free side-events are to be held at The AFTRS Theatre on Sunday, October 23. 10:00am. The Upcoming Australian Film Showcase will give audiences insight into forthcoming Australian sci-fi flicks The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One, Blue World Order, and Space/Time as well as an opportunity to pick the precocious brains of the filmmakers behind the screening films.
The second event will give audiences a chance to watch The Matrix, The Avengers and Star Wars concept illustrator, Tani Kunitake perform a live sketch of Dani Swan, before presenting their upcoming collaboration on Cerulean, a boundary-pushing comic book, TV series, and feature film.
The 2016 Sci-Fi Film Festival has also announced that the two Short Film Programmes will premiere on Saturday, October 22 at 4:00pm and Sunday, October 23 at 2:00pm.
Festival founder and director Dov Kornits holds faith in the short film program, saying “The diversity of the talent and ideas on display is breathtaking, and what these gifted filmmakers achieve with their limited budgets will blow you back in your seats. Trust me, the next Ridley Scott, George Miller, and James Cameron are in amongst this incredible crew of directors.”
