Set for release in a time usually suited to Academy Award favourites and the tail end of the big blockbuster runs (see: Star Wars), one of the first big comedies set for release in 2016 is shaping up to be Dirty Grandpa, starring Robert De Niro, Zac Efron, Julianne Hough, Aubrey Plaza and Dermot Mulroney and directed by Dan Mazer (I Give It A Year). The first trailer for the film was just released – you can check it out below:
OK, so we’re not in store for anything groundbreaking here, and it’s sure to be a predictable ride (the trailer tells us just about everything doesn’t it?), but it looks like the repore between Efron and DeNiro should make it a pretty enjoyable one all the same. Spring Break with your Grandpa… I suppose that’s got a unique ring to it… Here’s the full synopsis:
Jason Kelly (Zac Efron) is one week away from marrying his boss’s uber-controlling daughter, putting him on the fast track for a partnership at the law firm. But, when the straight-laced Jason is tricked into driving his foul-mouthed grandfather, Dick (Robert De Niro), to Daytona for spring break, his pending nuptials are suddenly in jeopardy. Between riotous frat parties, bar fights, and an epic night of karaoke, Dick is on a quest to live his life to the fullest and bring Jason along for the ride. Ultimately, on the wildest journey of their lives, “dirty” Grandpa and his uptight grandson discover they can learn from one another and form the bond they never had.
Dirty Grandpa will be released in Australian cinemas on 28th January 2016
