Roman Polanski’s best coming to ACMI and Palace Cinemas nationwide

Acclaimed French-Polish director, Holocaust survivor and controversial figure Roman Polanski has a history of Academy Award winning films and cult classics. Come November ACMI and Palace Cinemas will be honouring Polanski’s extensive oeuvre by bringing ten of his best works to cinemas in Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and Sydney.

Roman: 10 X Polanski will set out to create an essential Polanski experience through ten films from his New Wave origins to his British ‘60’s hits and his New Hollywood landmarks. Amongst the selection are:

Marina Zenovich’s documentary, Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired, will also play alongside Polanski’s ten selected features. Zenovich’s documentary follows Polanski through his controversial trial and subsequent escape from the United States and has won awards at Sundance and at the Emmy Awards.

“Lauded by the Museum of Modern Art in New York as ‘one of the great modern masters of the cinema’ Roman Polanski has over the course of five decades refined a formal film language and expressed a mordantly ironic worldview in genre-defining films that are provocative, compelling and inventive,” said ACMI Film Programmer and curator of the season, Roberta Ciabarra.
