Rumour: Spyro the Dragon Trilogy to Receive PS4 Remaster?

Last year, I wrote about how classic remasters are effectively ‘killing the business’. Yet when Sony announced its MediEvil remaster, I was forced to eat my own words — the pure excitement overrode any concerns about the dangers of nostalgia.

It seems now that I might have to take another hefty dose of humble pie, with rumours swirling that everybody’s favourite purple dragon Spyro, is heading back to our screens.

According to sources at Kotaku UK, Activision is currently working on bringing all three classic Spyro the Dragon games to PS4 this year, with plans of an official announcement taking place in March.

While details are scarce, the source did confirm that the remaster will have PS4 Pro support, and could include some content cut from the original releases of the games. This could include the hidden Dragonfly Eggs that were only included in the Japanese release, or certain cut content like the Dino Mines battle arena. Further information should become available after the official announcement.

Spyro the Dragon was one of the first games I ever played, along with Crash Bandicoot, MediEvil and Ape Escape, so rumors of this remaster lit a tiny fire in my heart.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see what comes of these rumours, but given the wild support they’ve received, it would be foolish to think a remaster isn’t a distinct possibility.

Now excuse me while I retreat into my Spyro onesie and cry into a nearby pillow.
