Yesterday, on the 25th of January, the 21st Screen Actors Guild Awards took place, proving to elicit a lot of controversial results.
Most notably was Birdman, who took away the award for ‘Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture’, the award considered the top tier for the night. Whilst the cast rejoiced, there seemed to be confusion felt by some – namely due to the lack of recognition for the highly acclaimed, Boyhood. The race is on to the Oscars to see who will take out the top spot there.
Michael Keaton was beat by the underdog Eddie Redmayne for ‘Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role in his role as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.
Award favourite Julianne Moore was presented with ‘Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role’ for her presentation of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease in Still Alice.
Orange Is The New Black beat old favourites Modern Family in the comedy category. During her acceptance speech, Uzo Abuda (who plays ‘Crazy Eyes’ in the hit television show) emotionally stated that “the day I got this job was the day I had stopped acting. And to be in a room with all your amazing talents, for what I respect and love so much, is just the greatest honour.”
