Michael Bay’s typical grandiosity has spilled over into the classic tale of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; it would be a cause for concern if the first official trailer didn’t make the film seem so incredibly fun. Detailed and very polished, the modern take on the anthropomorphic fantasy looks to be a visual feast for anyone who grew up with the comic/cartoon/video game/movie sensation. Let’s hope the script is just as good.
Whether more villains, like the classic duo of Tokka and Rahzar, are to be included remains to be seen, but Shredder looks particularly impressive, looming over the turtles in a terrifying metallic armour making him seem like some type of decepticon. We also get our first look of the wise old Master Splinter, dodging projectiles in all his sensei glory. Come the film’s Australian release on September 11, it’s pretty much guaranteed that you’ll once again find yourself debating about who the coolest ninja turtle is [Raphael, der].
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is released in Australia on September 11 through Paramount Pictures
