Since the project was officially announced in 2015, fans have been clamouring for the trailer for Sony’s adaptation of the incredibly successful Stephen King novel The Dark Tower. With release being set back multiple times over the past year, Sony has settled with an August 17 release date and now the wait for the trailer is finally over.
Watch the trailer here:
With this first promotional trailer coming only three and half months from release, it is easy to suggest that there may be call for concern. However, the trailer delivers incredible visuals and keeps the audience very much in the dark about the story points, seemingly putting those concerns to rest.
The trailer definitely executes the best qualities in the two leading actors, Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey and makes us anticipate their confrontation and chemistry even more. The one main question remains on how faithful of an adaptation the film will be to the original novel. The trailer appears to follow a non-horror vibe choosing to focus on the dystopian-supernatural aspects.
Synopsis: Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), the last Gunslinger, is locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim (Matthew McConaughey), also known as the Man in Black. The Gunslinger must prevent the Man in Black from toppling the Dark Tower, the key that holds the universe together. With the fate of worlds at stake, two men collide in the ultimate battle between good and evil.
The Dark Tower is directed by Nikolaj Arcel, produced by Stephen King and stars Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Taylor, Kathryn Winnick, Jackie Earle Hayley, Frank Kranz, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Michael Barbeiri and Claudia Kim.
The Dark Tower blasts into theatres on August 17th, 2017.
