Netflix has revealed the first trailer for their new original series The Crown, which has become the most expensive series ever produced.
The first season of the ten-part series has had a production cost of about US$130 million , which is roughly about AU$169 million. The Crown has exceeded the cost of Game of Thrones and Rome with a per-episode cost of US$10 million, which is roughly AU$13 million. The series has 60 episodes planned over six seasons so that cost is bound to increase immensely.
The show focuses on the early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, her marriage with Prince Phillip, and her struggle to balance her personal life with her public role.

The cast consists of Claire Foy, who will play Queen Elizabeth II, Matt Smith, who is known for his role as Doctor Who will play Prince Phillip, and John Lithgow, who will play Sir Winston Churchill.
The series is written by Peter Morgan, who wrote The Queen and Frost/Nixon, directed by Stephen Daldry, who directed Billy Elliot and The Hours and will be produced by Andy Harries, who produced The Queen.
The Crown launches internationally on Netflix on November 4.
