It’s that time of the year again, as the nominations for the 75th Golden Globe Awards were recently announced. Covering a range of entertainment forms, the Golden Globe Awards seek to shine a light on the most impressive performances and projects to grace our screens.
Nominations flew in left, right and centre, with major films like Dunkirk being nominated for a total of 3 awards, including best motion picture in the drama category, best director and best original score. More recently released films like The Disaster Artist were nominated for best motion picture for a musical comedy, along with Get Out.
Critically acclaimed films Call Me by Your Name, Dunkirk, The Post, The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri have all been nominated for Best Motion Picture in the drama genre.
Jessica Chastain, Frances McDormand and fan favourite Meryl Streep have all been nominated for best performance by an actress in a drama motion picture for Molly’s Game, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Post respectively.
Veteran actors Daniel Day-Lewis, Tom Hanks, Gary Oldman and Denzel Washington have all been nominated for best performance by an actor in a drama motion picture, for their roles in Phantom Thread, The Post, Darkest Hour and Roman J. Israel, Esq. respectively.
Directors Guillermo del Toro, Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg all snagged nominations for Best Director, while Allison Janney received credit for her work in I, Tonya with her nomination for best supporting actress. Arnie Hammer and Willem Dafoe were also nominated for best supporting actors for the work in Call Me by Your Name and The Florida Project respectively.
Dunkirk, The Post, Phantom Thread, The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri have all received nominations for Best Original Score in a Motion Picture. The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri have also received nods for Best Screenplay in a Motion Picture.
A Fantastic Woman, First They Killed My Father, In the Fade, Loveless and The Square all received nominations for Best Motion Picture in the foreign language category, while films like Coco and Ferdinand were nominated for Best Animated Film.
Delving in to the television side of the awards, fan favourites such as The Crown, Game of Thrones and Stranger Things were all nominated for Best TV Series in the Drama Category, while Black-ish, SMILF and Will & Grace were nominated for the same award in the Musical or Comedy category.
Claire Foy was nominated for Best Actress in a TV Series in the drama category for her performance in The Crown, while Freddie Highmore was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Drama TV series for his performance in The Good Doctor.
Actor Aziz Ansari received a nomination for his performance in the Netflix comedy series Master of None, while Alison Brie received a nomination for her performance in Glow, for Best Performance by and Actor and Actress respectively in a Musical or Comedy TV Series.
Finally, critically acclaimed shows like Fargo and Top of the Lake: China Girl has been nominated for Best Limited Series.
