The sequel to Fantastic Beasts is official; a release date confirmed

Attention Harry Potter fanatics and all lovers of fantasy – this one’s for you! Warner Bros. confirmed yesterday that a sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which comes out later in the year, is already in the works. They also confirmed a worldwide release date of November 16th, 2018. The script will be written by J.K Rowling with David Yates again directing the film.

Yates directed the last four Harry Potter films and the first film of the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them series, which comes out November 18th. The second film of the proposed trilogy will also reunite producers David Heyman, Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram and executive producers to serve will be Rowling’s agent, Neil Blair, Rick Senat and Danny Cohen.

The Fantastic Beasts trilogy focuses on Newt Scamander, a character that was mentioned only in passing within the Harry Potter books with the story set decades before that series. Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne will be playing the character of Scamander. It was earlier confirmed that three Fantastic Beasts films were planned, with the last of the trilogy expected to come out in November 2020.

A statement released by Warner Bros mentioned that the second film “moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.”
