Fantastic actors star in criminally overlooked productions in this week’s Australian DVD and Blu-Ray releases.
WHILE WE’RE YOUNG
Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts star as a middle-aged married couple whose lives are turned upside down with the appearance of a young, carefree Generation Y couple (Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried). Directed by Noah Baumbach, this film gained glowing reviews and benefits from a stellar cast.
THE KNICK, SEASON ONE
Clive Owen is Dr. John Thackery, an experimental and respected surgeon at New York’s Knickerbocker Hospital in 1900 – who also happens to be a drug addict. The Knick explores the racial tensions in New York City in the early 20th century, and the medical limitations and advancements of the time. This Showtime series has been picked up for a second series, which is set to debut in the US in October.
WELCOME TO ME
Kristin Wiig stars as Alice, a woman with borderline personality disorder who wins the lottery and uses the money to fund a reality television show about her life. Also starring James Marsden and Linda Cardellini, Welcome to Me is a bizarre, dark, and hilarious comedy that showcases Wiig’s deadpan and unusual humour.
