TV Review: Danger 5 Season 2, Episode 3 (Australia, 2015)

danger5

The tables have turned and this time it’s Danger 5 who are being chased down by major law enforcement as they are wanted for the alleged kidnapping of Holly, last episode’s ditzy blonde high school student.

In the shooting range, the cops are given a pep talk by their ‘Commy’ hating Captain, whilst being fed military-grade stamina pills to keep them going over triple-shifts. What they don’t know is that the pills are being milked out of the gooey green tail of a parasitic lizard creature that lives inside the stomach of Mengele, one of Hitler’s henchman.

Meanwhile, Pierre is celebrating his birthday with his fugitive buddies in the best way he knows how – at ‘Grizzly’s’, with cocktails and strippers. The mysterious Nikita, cloaked up in furs for icy Russia, orders Ilsa down the phone line to get him Holly. He sends Ilsa a drug-infused orange with which to ‘neutralise’ Holly. By mistake, however, Pierre mixes it into a cocktail, sending him into a naked frenzy and causing a flirtatious, hallucinating Ilsa to make her way to the bathroom – but not without grabbing Jackson first. Jackson is beside himself – he finally has a chance with Ilsa! But alas, he is unprepared and asks Ilsa if she has any rubbers because, quote, ‘I just don’t know where you’ve been.’ Ugh Jackson. C’mon.

Tucker is still having a hard time dealing with Claire’s death and is still carrying her severed head around with him. After asking a stripper to dance while holding it and freaking out over a vision of Claire giving birth to Hitler, Tucker goes a little crazy and takes Holly (who has been handcuffed to the bar this whole time) with him to the department store.

Ninja Tucker emerges once more, calling the cops to alert them to the fact that he has Holly with him in the mall. The police walk right into the trap and Tucker takes them out one by one, in increasingly horrifying methods.

The cops also raid Grizzly’s, arresting Pierre and Jackson, and taking Ilsa in for questioning. Jackson is taken straight to the shooting range, where he is bound and hanging from the roof, copping bean-bag pellets to the stomach by the Captain, who has more than just a pithy grudge against him.

Ilsa waits in the interview room, and is greeted by Mengele from the other side of the two-way glass. She Macguyvers up a nifty shotgun using only her stilettos and a bullet charm from her bracelet. Mengele is shot and killed through the glass, but his stomach parasite lizard escapes, taking on a human body form with his lizard head attached.

The serious side effects of those stamina pills become evident when a Tyrannosaurus Rex suddenly attacks Ilsa in the interview room, and an acid-spitting Stegosaurus charges the Captain. Mengele’s lizard’s plan is in full-motion. He has formed an army of dino-cops, whom he orders to capture Hitler and speed away with him in a SWAT car.

A high-speed pursuit ensues, with the Danger 5 team and Holly crammed in a cop car and Pierre on a talking 300CC Superman Superbike, which he found in the evidence locker.

Missiles shooting from the dino-cops’ SWAT car destroy Pierre’s bike, but right at the perfect moment, Mackenzie arrives with Pierre’s birthday present – a missile-launching sports car! They fire back at the dino-cops, not realising that Holly has somehow climbed up onto the back of it, determined to take a jacket that she was eyeing off in the mall (with leg-warmer sleeves), back from one of the cops. Holly is bitten by a dino-cop, shot a bunch of times and seriously injured by Pierre’s missiles. Luckily, she comes back to life amidst some very 1980s-era lighting bolt special effects, with the Danger 5 team watching, mystified.

The SWAT car turns into a helicopter and flies away, but the guys find Mengele’s fake ID in Holly’s jacket pocket. It was issued in the Vatican City, giving us a signal as to where the Danger 5 team will be heading to in the next episode.

Mackenzie brings out a birthday cake for Pierre and the team all celebrates. Except for poor Tucker, of course, who is wailing over the fact that Holly came back to life but his beloved Claire didn’t. None of the others seem to notice or care.

Dinosaurs and a high-speed car chase made for a very fun and exciting episode of Danger 5. The best one yet, in fact! Next episode promises to be a controversial one, with Hitler coming face to face with his polar opposite human – the Pope.
