Two unmissable films added to the AFF 2023 program

Two exciting new UK films have just been added to the Adelaide Film Festival Program for 2023, Poor Things and Saltburn.

Poor Things is by director Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster, The Favorite), generating Oscar buzz after its premiere at Venice Film Festival this year. The Australian premiere is to be screened in Adelaide this October.

Poor Things tells the incredible tale of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone) brought back from the dead by mad scientist Dr Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). In this Frankenstein-like movie, Bella is hungry for love and elopes with debauched lawyer Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo). This leads to a whirlwind adventure across continents, all the while Bella stands firm in her purpose for freedom and equality.

Saltburn is by Academy-award-winning filmmaker Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) and is a wicked tale of privilege and desire.

Student Oliver Quick, played by Barry Keogan of The Banshees of Inisherin fame, is bored with Oxford University. Charming and aristocratic fellow student Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi) invites him to his palatial home for the summer. This will be a summer never to forget.

This is Fennell’s second film, but she has already gained a formidable reputation in the industry and has teamed up with Australia’s own Margot Robbie for Saltburn.

“We always promise to bring the very best of international cinema to the Adelaide Film Festival and in 2023 we are delivering again on this commitment.  The published program is already chock full of cinema delights, but I am absolutely thrilled to be announcing these late additions – both of them excellent treats for festival audiences,” said Mat Kesting, AFF CEO & Creative Director.

The films will screen at two of Adelaide’s most stunning picture palaces.

Poor Things will screen on Thursday October 19 and Friday October 27 at the Capri Theatre; Saltburn will screen on Wednesday October 25 at The Piccadilly and on Saturday October 28 at The Capri.

Best value for the AFF23 is a Multi-pass

The Adelaide Film Festival runs from 18-29th October 2023
