As part of this year’s Sydney VIVID Ideas Program, CLIPPED Music Video Competition announced their winners over two buzzing nights over at The Works in Glebe last weekend. The event included a six-category competition and award ceremonies; innovative discussion panels featuring international and local speakers; screenings and crafty exhibition spaces.
The panel of judges for the competition included British music video directors Nigel Dick (Tears for Fears, Elton John, Green Day, REM) and David Wilson (Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, Tame Impala).
Festival director Sam Bright says: “Music video is an under-appreciated art form these days. Most people don’t have time or the opportunity to collectively celebrate the art and technique of the ‘clip’ in the same room together these days. That’s why it’s fantastic to finally provide a new avenue for work to be discovered in Australia.”
“It’s clear that music videos influence almost every aspect of modern society – from what we choose to wear, to current trends in creative advertising and branding, even informing our political decisions. Nearly all new advances in the science, art and technical wizardry that we see in today’s feature films and television show at least have some traces of early experimentation or incarnation in the music video arena.”
“With a focus on Australasian work, the festival’s goal has been to curate an event showcasing the best emerging filmmakers work from the past few years. Sharing this high calibre work with the more than 300 people who visited our festival exceeded our expectations… we’ve all had a massive blast of inspiration.”
