Following the success of the Classic Cinema’s first 8K Radius series, Hawthorn’s newly minted Lido Cinema will be getting its own 8-part series of these five-minute film portraits of Hawthorn locals who live and work within an eight kilometre radius of the cinema.
Directed by Clayton Jacobson (Kenny), the films are a rich and varied exploration into the lives of ordinary people. Each subject provides the voiceover for their own story, accompanied by montage-style footage that develops a sense of their character.
In the series, you will meet Angelo, a Greek émigré tram driver who simply loves his job; Ben, an award-winning luthier and double bass-maker with a passion for his craft; Steven who’s long-standing interest in the military has seen rise through the ranks as an Australian Army corporal ward; and Pekx, a blind weight lifter who has overcome significant hurdles to be where he is today.
Committed to Australian content and a partnership with local film and television school Swinburne University, Lido Cinemas will be showing the 5-minute biopics as shorts before film in their standard programming. This will happen following the premiere of the series, which is happening on Thursday, 23rd July 2015.
The Lido Cinemas is located at 675 Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn.
