“As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a gangster.” This critically acclaimed film follows the true story of gangster Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), and his associates Jimmy Conway (Robert De Niro) and Tommy Devito (Joe Pesci) as they climb up the Mob hierarchy. One of Martin Scorsese’s best films, it’s definitely worth tuning into for its realistic portrayal of Mob life and the top-notch acting.
V for Vendetta, GO!, 9:30pm AEST
An action film with political weight and a lot of heart too. V for Vendetta follows the premise of an oppressive British government, set in the not so distant future, that ‘V’ (Hugo Weaving) sets out to destroy, Guy Fawkes mask and all. Natalie Portman also stars as the young girl taken under his wing, during this campaign for destruction.
Tuesday
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, ABC 2, 7:45 pm AEST
Don’t miss Jay Leno’s return to ‘The Tonight Show ‘, his first since he left the show earlier this year. In a slightly strange dynamic, the former host is the one interviewed. There’ll be lots of laughs though, as Leno performs a stand-up routine and Fallon gets some honest feedback on his performance.
Michael Hutchence: The Loved One, ABC, 8:36 pm AEST
This personal documentary traces the rise of INXS, from the pubs of Sydney to the world stage and includes interviews with Hutchence’s family, friends and contemporaries.
Wednesday
Mabo: Life of an Island Man, NITV, 9:30pm AEST
The AFI award-winning documentary explores the life of the dynamic Eddie Mabo. Filmmaker Trevor Graham explores Mabo’s fight for recognition of native title and land ownership, challenging the false notion of ‘terra nullius’ and changing Australian history.
Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery, ABC, 9:05 pm AEST
Tune in again this week, because Bill Bailey is the guest and he is hilarious. Known for his role in Black Books and countless appearances on British comedy shows and sell out stand-up tours, Bailey can always be relied upon to make you laugh.
