It’s the grand final of the X Factor, so tune in to see who will be crowned the winner. It’s between folk group Brothers 3, fifteen-year old vocalist Marlisa and singer-songwriter Dean Ray. Tensions between the judges have been running high this season, so there could be just as many sparks happening off stage as on.
Man on Fire, Gem, 8:30 pm AEST
This 2004 adaption of A.J. Quinnell’s novel stars Denzel Washington as an ex-CIA officer. He is hired to protect a young girl (Dakota Fanning) in Mexico, and seeks brutal revenge when his charge is abducted. The always-fantastic Christopher Walken also stars.
Tuesday
21 Jump Street, Ch. 9, 9:30 pm AEST
Guaranteed to make you laugh, 21 Jump Street stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as underachieving cops who are sent to high school where they must blend in to take down a drug ring. There are hilarious moments aplenty in this action-comedy that will cheer up your Tuesday night.
Wednesday
The Chaser’s Media Circus, ABC, 8:30 pm AEST
The controversial boys of the Chasers are back, and keeping the media on their toes. Last week’s episode unveiled a new format, operating as a kind of game show that exposes the ridiculousness of the weekly news. Craig Reucassel, Chas Licciardello, Andrew Hansen and Chris Taylor deliver on the laughs so check out the Media Circus for biting commentary on current events. You know the controversial gang will be making the headlines themselves soon…
Sherlock Holmes, GO!, 8:30 pm AEST
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law team up as the mystery-solving partnership Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Directed by Guy Ritchie it is a more action-focused take on the often-told tale. The film showcases the eccentricities of Holmes, played with skill by Downey Jr. Mark Strong also features as the aristocratic, serial killer Lord Blackwood.
Saving Private Ryan, One, 9:30 pm AEST
Steven Spielberg’s gritty Saving Private Ryan is a classic war film famous for its portrayal of the landings at Omaha Beach. Private Ryan (Matt Damon) is missing in action after the D-Day landings and Captain Miller (Tom Hanks) is charged with finding him after it is discovered that Ryan’s three brothers have died and their mother received the news of their deaths on the same day. The Academy Award winning film is worth watching for its powerfully realistic battle scenes alone.
