Lee (Keener) is a photographer who documents the plights of refugees in war torn countries. Her most recent assignment brings her to Libya where she is detained for brutal questioning. The plot commences with her release and soon-to-be isolation in a Sicilian hotel where she is content to hide out immersed in darkness and painkillers.
Slowly it materialises that Lee is suffering the loss of her lover and mentor and has chosen his home village to seek refuge. The phone keeps ringing off the hook. The torment is never far from the surface. Language is a barrier. So is memory. Lee furthers her alienation, drinking and barricading herself, in the hotel room. She bears the scars of torture, both psychological and physical. One day out on a walk about the village she spots a pregnant Tunisian refugee she is convinced she photographed in Libya. Her world is about to change. War Story, staring Catherine Keener and directed by Mark Jackson, is out on DVD and Blu-Ray October 22nd and we’ve got FIVE Blu-Ray copies to give away!
