Current WWE World Champion and modern wrestling legend AJ Styles has been announced as the new face of WWE 2K19, topping off a brilliant few years for the superstar.
Styles joined WWE in 2016, debuting at the Royal Rumble and going on to share brilliant matches with the likes of John Cena, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose before capturing the WWE World Championship later that same year.
Given that his success continued into 2017 and 2018, including a second run with the WWE Championship, and great matches with the likes of Finn Balor and Brock Lesnar, it’s safe to say that his place on the cover is well deserved.
During the show, Styles also had the opportunity to introduce a brand new competitive challenge for fans of 2K’s WWE series. The ‘WWE 2K19 Million Dollar Challenge’ is a gauntlet-style competition where fans are invited to take on AJ Styles himself for a chance to win – you guessed it – one million dollars.
Entrants can participate on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One by undertaking four competitive steps:
- Beat a to-be-announced mode in the upcoming game
- Submit a promotional video which shows why you’ll be the one to beat AJ Styles
- Make it to the semi-finals round of the competition
- Beat three other semi-finalists
Making it through to the other side will mean the winner gets to face AJ Styles 1v1 in the final round for the chance to earn one million dollars – although Styles warns he won’t be easy to defeat.
Upon describing the upcoming game and this brand new competition, the champ shared his enthusiasm, describing WWE 2K19 and the Million Dollar Challenge as “nothing short of phenomenal.”
In addition to the announcement of a brand new mode, challenge and cover star, 2K Games also announced the release date of the franchise’s newest entry. WWE 2K19 will be releasing on October 9th across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
Until then, there’s plenty of time to warm up those muscles with WWE 2K18 and prepare to take on the champ!
